With Rollbase NewUI, HTTP response content-type is mostly application/json.
We can optimize network transfer speeds by leveraging HTTP compression for the following resource types:
  • text/html
  • text/plain
  • text/css
  • text/xml
  • application/xml
  • application/javascript
  • application/x-javascript
  • application/json
  • image/png
  • image/gif
  • image/jpeg
  • image/svg+xml
This is something we advocate to Private Cloud customers and already have it in place on our Public Cloud.

When using Apache HTTP Server, set the following configuration in httpd.conf (<apache-install-dir>/conf) and restarts Apache.
#Load mod_deflate
LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so

#Compress only a few types
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/css text/xml application/xml application/javascript application/x-javascript application/json image/png image/gif image/jpeg image/svg+xml

When using Tomcat only, set the following configuration in server.xml (<tomcat-install-dir>/conf) and restarts Tomcat.
<Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
               connectionTimeout="20000"
               compressableMimeTypes="text/html,text/plain,text/css,text/xml,application/xml,application/javascript,application/x-javascript,application/json,image/png,image/gif,image/jpeg,image/svg+xml"
               redirectPort="8443" />

To check if the compression is working, access the website https://checkgzipcompression.com and type your domain in the search box.
