In versions of Sitefinity before 7.0, the created Related Media had a different FieldType ("Telerik.Sitefinity.Web.UI.Fields.AssetsField, Telerik.Sitefinity") and these fields are not developed anymore and are not fully functional in the new versions of Sitefinity.

The FieldType can be checked by navigating to Administration > Settings > Advanced > ContentView > Controls > ModuleType (e.g. if the News module has the related data, search for NewsBackend) > Views > [ModuleType]BackendInsert > Sections > RelatedMediaSection > Fields > NameOfMediaField and search for FieldType

Or by going to Administration > Module builder > DynamicContentModule > ContentModule and check the Type of the Related media. If it says Media, it is the old FieldType.

The Media field has to be migrated so that it is a Related Media field:

In order to migrate it, follow the Sitefinity Documentation, Migrate related data

The old Media Field has the capability of saving media from various providers. However, the new Related Media Field can only access providers inside the specific site.
Hence, if the parent content type's provider is shared across sites, for all items to show related media, add the library providers of all the sites that the parent content type provider is shared across.

Note: Delete the items from the recycle bin if any.
